A story in 5 pictures and Hampton Court

Hampton Court

Today was one of my favorite days in the UK. We visited Hampton Court Palace and gardens. It really was stunning. This palace turns out to be one of Henry VIII's favorite stomping grounds.

We took the train out there which is always nice. Michele and I split from the group and spent hours browsing all the rooms. My favorite room in the house was actually William I's closet! This was were he kept his favorite paintings. 5 of them had a really dark, almost black motif. The subjects in the painting were only lit by candlelight making them some of the most interesting works I have seen.

Most of the rooms in the castle had elaborate ceiling and wall murals and tapestries. The chapel was absolutely beautiful and very different then any other we had seen. It was amazing to think about the fact that we were standing the the room where William and Mary slept or kept their clothes and lived etc. Over 500 years of history in that building. Amazing. Unfortunately, I was unable to take pictures in many of the rooms but here are a few of my favorites.
